Argus Fire and Security are dedicated to pull out all the stops to supply our customers with effective security solutions to their problems. As Wigan’s largest independent installer of security systems, we have in house expertise to design and install Intruder and Fire Alarms, CCTV, Door Access and Integrated Systems at competitive prices. We are an NSI Gold approved organisation and issue NACOSS certification for all our installation work, with the current exception of Fire Alarms. This ensures that your system is accepted by your insurers and can obtain Police response through our Alarm Receiving Centre if required.
Intruder Alarms are our core business, we have been installing good quality reliable systems for over 29 years. All of our Intruder Alarm work was historically carried out to BS 4737:1986.Our current work is carried out to the latest European Standard EN50131 and PD6662:2010. We first achieved accreditation in 1996 and have been designated NACOSS NSI GOLD since 2004. We have had a Certificate of Quality Assurance to BS EN ISO 9002:1994 and NACOSS Quality Schedule SSQS 101 since September 2001.
In January 2015 Argus were awarded NSI Fire Gold Status and BAFE approval for the maintenance of Fire Detection Systems. Argus are now designated NSI Gold for Alarms, CCTV, Access Control Systems and Fire Alarm Maintenance.
Chairman Roger Wood previously helped to build up one of the North West’s most successful intruder alarm companies in the 1970s and 1980s. Oldham Security Services Co Ltd was a family business successful over three decades. Roger’s father Alan Wood had a lifetime of security industry experience and under his leadership employed over 40 people at its peak. In 1984 the American International Corporation Honeywell targeted and eventually purchased the company which had by then its own Alarm Receiving Centre. Roger tried working in Construction for a few years but was inevitably drawn back to the Security Industry and in 1994 purchased a small but well run company with a reputation for quality. Argus Alarms as it was known became Argus Security Systems Ltd in 1995.
Our Operating Area
Argus Fire and Security are based in Wigan near Manchester, in close proximity to the M6, M61, M62, M65 and M58, providing an ideal location to cover the North West of England. From these offices we install and maintain systems from Cumbria to Cheshire and Flintshire to West Yorkshire. However national accounts demand nation wide coverage, and we believe that we are able to provide this in the best way possible. We are a member of a group of similar sized reputable NSI companies located throughout the UK which have reciprocal service arrangements. Our national customers know that all their branches receive the best local service with the personal touch, which only small local companies can provide, yet still have one point of contact.
We have always been careful to get our existing business running smoothly before starting new projects. Intruder Alarms have always formed the core of our business and gradually CCTV, Door Access and Fire Alarms have been added. In 2015 Argus achieved BAFE approval for the Maintenance of Fire Detection Systems. Argus have now started the process to become NSI Fire Gold and BAFE approved also for the Design and Installation of Fire Detection Systems – Argus expect to achieve the approval later in the year. This will ensure that all our fire alarms will be certified by the NSI in a similar manner to Intruder Alarms and CCTV. We believe as per the trend in the industry, in the future only certified fire alarms will receive automatic brigade response.
Health & Safety
Early in 2008 Argus Security Systems as we were then know became accredited to the Contractors Health & Safety Scheme, CHAS. This ensures that we promote the latest safety techniques to give less risk of incidents to staff, customers and members of the general public, Argus Fire and Security recognise the importance of Health and Safety and are committed to promoting safe working environments. All Argus engineers have completed the CSCS health and safety training test, CSCS (construction skills certification scheme) was set up in the mid-90s with the aim of improving site workers competence to reduce accidents on construction sites and similar work environments.
In 2009 we gained Construction Line membership. Construction line is the UK’s largest certified pre-qualification database, saving the construction industry over £500 million a year in administration. Already used by over 60% of local authorities, they reduce duplication and save time and money by encouraging organisations to use a single source for pre-qualification.
In recent years Argus has supported a number of local charities in Wigan and surrounding areas, including most recently the new Wigan Youth Zone. In 2011 to 2013 Argus raised money for the development of this facility by doing an annual sponsored bike ride. In October 2013 we agreed to be an official supporter of this amazing charity, providing a financial contribution to the running of the facility, giving thousands of youngsters and teenagers somewhere to go to help develop their skills and relationships.
